Cashier
Job Summary: A cashier is responsible for the financial transaction between customer and company, so accuracy is essential.
The Cashier is also to provide good customer service to entice the individual to return to Hamrick’s. Maintains a positive company image by being courteous and professional in all situations with customers and employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Count till prior to starting shift to insure accuracy
- Question to see if any promotional procedures need to be handled differently
- Greet the customer and provide assistance necessary to finalize sale and encourage future return to Hamrick’s
- Capture customer information (name, sex, birth date, zip code, address, phone & e-mail account) by using the keyboard on the Retail-J Cash Register System for our “More” loyalty program
- Apply appropriate discounts for promotions specified by ads and financial
- Monitor cash register for off line status (red box around transaction#) by notifying financial
- Monitor tickets prices and contacting department supervisor if items is showing incorrect through register
- Monitor merchandise for correct size or mis-mate. If shoes, making sure to monitor correct size, color, left & right, image on outside of box
- Make accurate collection of payments
- If payment is by personal check – Obtaining the required information to guarantee payment from check provider and processing using synergy terminal
- If payment is by cash – Making sure the correct change is given. Marking $20’s, $50’s and $100’s using the counterfeit pens provided. If $50’s or $100’s, making sure to ask for change from the financial at time of transaction
- If transaction deems a gift card or store credit – making sure processed correctly in both register and synergy terminal
- Bag merchandise for customer convenience and security after payment process is completed
- Be able to speak clearly and professionally when using paging system for any reason
- Make suggestive selling, add-ons to customer such as gift cards, accessories, etc.
- Process merchandise returns and obtain customer information required with or without receipts. Obtain required signatures at the time of the transaction. If no receipt, make sure a store credit is processed through register and synergy terminal (if greater than $10)
- Separate hangers and returns to stockroom
- Disperse claim tickets, hold slips for customer and employees, making sure customer and employee hold slips are signed by a financial and the merchandise is put in the proper location
- Clean work area as needed to obtain a professional look
- Restock supplies (Bags, paper for registers, paper for synergy terminals, staples, rubber bands)
- Separate paperwork at end of shift – No sales, Debit, MasterCard, Discover, Visa, Returns, Vendor Coupons, Hostess and Bus Driver Coupons.
- Be apologetic when a transaction may take longer than expected
- Work on sales floor as needed
- Complete other duties assigned by financial and management
Special abilities, required skills, or education needed to perform the essential job functions: Completion of 10th grade or equivalent
