Summary

The Merchandise Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day administrative functions within the buying office and to provide support to the buying staff.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain appointment calendar (in buyer's absence)

  • Answer telephone calls: take messages and return calls in buyer's absence

  • Prepare store memos

  • Return samples to vendors/companies

  • Enter purchase order information into computer system

  • Assign SKU# to all styles

  • Communicate with stores and vendors on defective merchandise to be returned

  • Print out weekly buying reports

  • Email information to stores and vendors

  • Distribute mail and reports

  • Special letters

  • Compile all weekly and monthly inventories

  • Set up forms

  • Approve transfers

  • Cooperate with management and other buying staff associates

  • Assist team members and help in other areas as directed by supervisor or management

Qualifications
  • Passion for superior service and helping others

  • Consistency and reliability

  • Sitting for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

  • Must possess excellent written, verbal communication skills, and phone etiquette

  • Must have adequate vision, speech, hearing, and physical ability to perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodations

  • Organization and time management skills required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Required Experience
  • Retail experience preferred
